The News, Eats & Events Shaping Western New York |
A once-worn bridge at Amherst and Starin has become a colorful landmark for people traveling through North Buffalo.
Local artist Lauren VanOsten, of Tiny Buffalo Designs Co., painted the mural after years of passing the crossing and imagining what it could be.
With support from Joel Feroleto, she turned a neglected spot into a piece of public art shaped in part by conversations with neighbors.
For walkers, cyclists, runners, and drivers, the mural brings a more welcoming feel to an everyday route.
It does not solve every challenge on the street, but it gives residents something to enjoy and a familiar place a renewed sense of neighborhood pride. Read More... |
Costumed dogs and their people will take over Allen Street for Allentownโs 2026 Halloween Pup Strut on Saturday, October 24, from noon to 3 p.m.
Instead of following a parade route, families can explore at their own pace, leaving plenty of time for treats, photos and sidewalk greetings.
The walk begins at Buffalo Barkery, 47 Allen Street, where registrants can pick up an event bag and a guide to participating businesses.
Shops and restaurants will offer Halloween treats for dogs and humans, along with photo spots and specialty offerings.
Registration is $15 per person, and signing up in advance is encouraged to make check-in quicker.
Every registrant will be entered in a giveaway, and adoptable dogs are expected to join the festivities.
Whether the costume is elaborate or simple, the afternoon offers a relaxed way to celebrate Halloween while supporting Allentown businesses. Read More... |
For Buffalo children, learning about money can start with a familiar choice: spend it now or save for something later.
M&T Bank, the Buffalo Bills and EVERFI launched the Financial Literacy Playbook at P.S. 37 Futures Prep School, where more than 100 students took part.
The program gives Western New York educators free access to interactive lessons for students in grades four through six.
Students explore spending, saving, budgeting, planning ahead and the difference between needs and wants.
At the launch, a fifth grader connected a lesson on saving to conversations with his father, while a Bills player spoke about setting goals for the future.
The football visit brought excitement, but the everyday choices are where these lessons may matter most.
For teachers and families, the playbook offers a starting point for talking with children about money as their habits take shape. Read More... |
