The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra stands at an exciting crossroads as it prepares for a new era of leadership in Buffalo, NY.

According to officials, longtime BPO veteran Jennifer Barbee is set to take the helm as President and Executive Director in 2026.

This marks a significant milestone for one of the city’s best-loved cultural institutions.

Barbee’s journey with the orchestra began in 2010, and her reputation for deep commitment to both artistry and the Buffalo community quickly grew.

Those who have witnessed the orchestra’s evolution say her strategic vision has been integral to the BPO leadership team over the last decade and a half.

Notably, she spearheaded ambitious campaigns that fortified the BPO’s endowment and broadened educational programming.

Recent seasons have seen the orchestra’s events thrive at Kleinhans Music Hall, drawing enthusiastic crowds and sparking renewed interest in classical music across Western New York.

Barbee will collaborate closely with Music Director JoAnn Falletta and the Board of Trustees as the BPO looks to expand its reach in the region.

Colleagues describe the pair’s partnership as a blend of artistic excellence and genuine community outreach, combining tradition with a bold vision for the future.

This transition comes at a time when Buffalo’s arts scene is experiencing renewed energy through new festivals, music series, and collaborations with area schools.

Barbee’s unique background as a classically trained bassoonist adds a valuable layer of musical understanding to her role as a leader.

Residents often say the orchestra is a pillar of local identity, and Barbee’s deep roots in Buffalo offer reassurance as the BPO navigates the changing landscape of performing arts.

With her appointment, many in the city anticipate fresh programming and partnerships that amplify both the orchestra’s legacy and its commitment to serve every corner of the community.
