The News, Eats & Events Shaping Western New York

At Buffalo’s artisan markets, shopping can feel like catching up with neighbors while discovering something made by hand.

Behind each table is a maker who has spent hours creating, packing and wondering whether anyone will stop.

A question about how a piece was made can turn a purchase into a connection.

Look for seasonal gatherings at Front Park and indoor markets at venues such as The Powerhouse and Seneca One.

For a trip beyond Buffalo, the Roycroft Campus in East Aurora offers another place to explore.

Ask makers about their work, bring some cash and leave time for an unexpected find.

If you meet a favorite vendor, keep their business information so you can support them after market day.

Check schedules before heading out, especially around Small Business Saturday, when shopping local can mean a little more to someone building a business by hand.

In Buffalo, mac n cheese can be the reason to pick a restaurant, whether you want a bubbling baked dish or a simple, creamy side.

At Mooney’s Sports Bar & Grill, baked versions draw on local favorites such as beef on weck and stuffed banana peppers, with locations in Tonawanda, Depew and Kenmore.

Ballyhoo on South Park Avenue keeps things simpler with a mac n cheese side that stands on its own.

Fat Bob’s Smokehouse pairs the comfort-food staple with barbecue, while The Place on Lexington Avenue has offered variations with pork belly, lobster and truffle mushroom.

Farther afield, Griffon Gastropub has served shells in smoked gouda sauce with a buttery cracker topping at its Lewiston, East Aurora and Niagara Falls locations.

The Delaware Pub & Grill in Tonawanda offers another smoked gouda version, with optional chicken, bacon or andouille sausage.

Menus change, so check before making a special trip.

Buffalo’s Halloween season gets a musical twist when Ghostbusters in Concert comes to the UB Center for the Arts on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 7:30 p.m.

The 1984 comedy will play on a large screen as a live orchestra performs Elmer Bernstein’s score, giving its ghostly surprises and familiar jokes new energy.

The fun starts before the film: the Buffalo Ghostbusters will bring replica vehicles, proton packs, props and photo opportunities to the atrium beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The local fan group has also supported charitable causes across Western New York.

Guests are encouraged to dress up and arrive early to explore the displays.

For families, longtime fans and anyone planning a fall night out, the event offers a fresh way to enjoy a movie favorite together.

Ticket availability and discounts should be confirmed with the box office.
