The News, Eats & Events Shaping Western New York

Looking for a sushi restaurant near Canisius University? Man-Aung Sushi has opened a second Buffalo location at 2073 Main Street, across from Castiglia Hall.

The compact corner shop has about six seats, making it a convenient stop for students, workers and neighbors.

Owner Za Nyo also runs Man-Aung’s original location near Lafayette Square.

The menu includes sushi rolls, poke bowls, miso soup, summer rolls, sushi platters and boba.

Customers can pick up ready-to-go sushi, request a freshly made roll or order delivery; parking near the shop can be tight.

Nyo named the restaurant after the island in Myanmar where he grew up, bringing a personal connection to its newest neighborhood.

With a friendly welcome and classical music inside, the small space offers a pleasant break from the bustle of Main Street.

Pedestrians on downtown Buffalo’s Main Street have a new reason to look up: a mural by Daev MOMO at 268 Main Street.

Created through the Buffalo AKG Art Museum’s Public Art Initiative, the work brings another piece of public art into the heart of the city.

MOMO, who has painted outdoors since the late 1990s, says the time, materials and production support in Buffalo exceeded what he had experienced on earlier projects.

He also credits the initiative’s experienced crew with teaching him new approaches to painting walls.

It was a welcome shift for an artist who has spent decades experimenting with homemade tools, masonry techniques and large-scale designs—and who once taught students practical geometry for a collaborative mural.

The Public Art Initiative has brought work to sites across Western New York since 2013.

At this new Main Street mural, the collaboration behind the work is as notable as the art passersby can enjoy.
