Wayland Brewery hosts third annual Lyme WNY 5k race

Over 500 participants gathered at Orchard Park's Wayland Brewery yesterday

On Sunday, May 31, 2026, over 500 participants gathered at Wayland Brewing Company in Orchard Park for the third annual Lyme WNY 5K, a community event dedicated to raising awareness about Lyme disease.

The event featured a USATF-certified 5-kilometer run and walk, starting and finishing at the brewery. Participants enjoyed a scenic route through Orchard Park, with a water station conveniently placed at the midpoint. Professional timing services ensured accurate results for all runners.

Following the race, attendees were treated to a lively celebration at Wayland Brewing Company. The festivities included live music by the band Voyagr, a basket raffle, and the opportunity to sample the brewery's offerings. Notably, Wayland Brewing Company contributed to the cause by donating $1 from every purchase of a dedicated brew on race day to Lyme WNY.

The primary goal of the event was to educate the community on tick prevention and to highlight local resources available for those affected by Lyme disease. All proceeds from the race were directed to Lyme WNY, providing grants to individuals in need of financial assistance for Lyme disease treatment.

Rebecca Roll, chair of Lyme WNY, emphasized the importance of awareness and prevention, stating, "We want people to enjoy the outdoors... but to remember to prevent, remember to use your bug sprays, remember to tick check."

The success of this year's event underscores the Buffalo community's commitment to supporting those affected by Lyme disease and promoting preventive measures. With the continued support of local organizations and residents, the Lyme WNY 5K aims to make an even greater impact in the years to come.
