UB Says Goodbye to the Alumni Arena |
The University at Buffalo (UB) has entered into a landmark 15-year, $31.75 million partnership with Broadview Federal Credit Union, marking a significant transformation for the university's athletic facilities and student support services.
Under this agreement, UB Stadium will be renamed Broadview Stadium, and Alumni Arena will become Broadview Arena. Additionally, the area between these venues will be designated as Broadview Village. This comprehensive naming rights deal is the largest in the Mid-American Conference and among the first nationwide to encompass a stadium, an arena, philanthropy, and an alumni association partnership.
UB President Satish K. Tripathi expressed gratitude for the collaboration, emphasizing that it enhances the university's capacity to support student-athletes in their athletic, academic, and personal endeavors. He highlighted that the scholarships and emergency funding facilitated by this partnership will empower students across the university to overcome challenges and achieve their aspirations.
Beyond the renaming of facilities, the partnership includes substantial financial support for students. Broadview will contribute $100,000 annually to the UB Foundation for student scholarships and an additional $50,000 to the university's student emergency fund, totaling $2.25 million over the duration of the agreement. This funding aims to assist students facing unforeseen hardships and to promote their academic success.
Michael Castellana, CEO of Broadview, described the partnership as a bold new chapter for both organizations, underscoring a shared commitment to public higher education and its impact on communities in Western New York and beyond. He expressed pride in supporting UB's vision and in pursuing Broadview's mission of changing lives alongside the university.
Mark Alnutt, UB's vice president and director of athletics, highlighted that the partnership enables the university to provide a first-class collegiate experience through academic excellence, social development, and competitive success. He noted that this transformative, campus-wide collaboration allows UB to compete at the highest level through sustained investment in its athletics program. Alnutt also emphasized the alignment between UB and Broadview in supporting the needs of the Western New York community.
This partnership builds upon an existing relationship between UB and Broadview, which maintains a branch on UB's North Campus and has sponsored UB Athletics for several years. The agreement reflects a mutual dedication to enhancing the student experience and fostering community engagement.
As UB prepares to welcome fans to the newly named Broadview Stadium and Broadview Arena, the university community anticipates the positive impact this partnership will have on student support services and the overall campus environment. |
