The Movies are Back at Market Arcade 8 in Buffalo

Downtown Buffalo multiplex touts $5 charity screenings on opening day before featuring first-run films

Downtown Buffalo's entertainment landscape is experiencing a vibrant revival with the reopening of the Market Arcade 8 theater. Scene One Entertainment, in partnership with Benchmark Management Group, has breathed new life into this historic venue, marking its inaugural venture into Western New York.

The grand opening on Wednesday was a festive affair, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony that drew enthusiastic crowds. To commemorate the occasion, all tickets were priced at $5, with proceeds benefiting local charities Hearts for the Homeless and the Elmwood Village Association. Attendees enjoyed screenings of beloved classics such as "The Natural" and "Bruce Almighty," both of which showcase Buffalo's charm, alongside timeless favorites like "The Wizard of Oz."

Scene One Entertainment's CEO, Joe Masher, expressed his excitement about the expansion, emphasizing the company's commitment to enhancing the moviegoing experience, particularly in downtown areas. He highlighted the Market Arcade 8's alignment with their vision of bringing film enthusiasts back to the theaters.

The theater boasts deluxe, heated, reclining seats in each auditorium, ensuring comfort for all patrons. Concessions include signature hot popcorn with real butter, a variety of Coca-Cola products, and a selection of classic snacks and candies. Additionally, plans are underway to introduce a full bar, pending approval from the New York State Liquor Authority.

Looking ahead, the Market Arcade 8 is set to feature a diverse array of films. Starting Thursday, April 23, moviegoers can look forward to "Michael," the Antonio Fuqua-directed biopic on Michael Jackson, along with titles like "I Swear," "Super Mario Galaxy Movie," "Over My Dead Body," "Fuze," and "Lorne." Beginning Friday, May 1, the highly anticipated sequel "The Devil Wears Prada 2," starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, will grace the screens.

The reopening of the Market Arcade 8 is a significant milestone for downtown Buffalo, promising to invigorate the local entertainment scene and provide a welcoming space for film lovers.
