Spencerport firefighters Chris Ott and Jack Baker joined hundreds of participants at Sahlen Field in Buffalo on Saturday for the annual Fight For Air Climb, an event dedicated to supporting lung health initiatives.
Organized by the American Lung Association, the climb attracted approximately 400 individuals, including over 100 firefighters who undertook the challenge in full gear, adding about 50 pounds to their ascent of 500 stadium steps.
Transitioning the event to Sahlen Field this year underscores the commitment to promoting clean air and lung health.
Mary Russo, development manager for the American Lung Association, emphasized the event's inclusive nature, stating, "Everyone has lungs, and it benefits lung health in general."
Funds raised from the climb will support various programs addressing asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, and related support groups.
Donations remain open through June 30, allowing contributions to the general event, specific climbers, or corporate teams.
The participation of local firefighters like Ott and Baker highlights the community's dedication to combating lung disease and promoting respiratory health. |
