Now Open: Reminiscing @ Café d' Luna on Grant Street |
'Stepping into Luna is like stepping back in time' |

Buffalo’s coffee shops are more than caffeine stops, and a new arrival on Grant Street feels built for lingering.
Café d’ Luna, also known as Luna’s, has opened at 220 Grant Street, bringing breakfast and coffee to a familiar corner.
The space once housed Sweet_ness 7, a café many West Siders remember as an early sign of the block’s possibilities.
Owners Matthew Zayas and Chiara Moslow also established Konbini on Washington Street, where coffee and ramen share the spotlight.
That experience gives Luna’s a connection between Buffalo’s breakfast cafes and its growing appetite for ramen cafes.
For now, the menu starts with morning comforts: avocado toast, pancakes, bacon and eggs, and harina de maíz.
The sweet cornmeal porridge brings cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla to a breakfast lineup with a distinctive personal touch.
Drinks include coffee sourced from the Dominican Republic and roasted in Buffalo, alongside matcha, lemonade and morir soñando.
That last option combines orange juice and milk with sugar and vanilla for a refreshing change of pace.
Ramen from Konbini is expected to join the menu, but Luna’s already has a reason to visit.
The bigger story is what an occupied corner can mean to a neighborhood still working toward its potential.
Next door, Indigo Chapel adds another active space to a stretch where each storefront helps shape the street.
The properties changed hands through a purchase by Black Dog NY LLC, including the former church and café corner.
With both spaces in use, the conversation shifts from what might happen here to what comes next.
Grant Street has long had independent businesses worth seeking out, even as empty or underused spaces remain a challenge.
One café cannot fix every storefront, and nearby West Ferry has its own need for investment and care.
Still, small openings can carry outsized hope when they give neighbors another reason to spend time on the block.
Among Buffalo coffee shops, Luna’s stands out for pairing a familiar address with flavors that hint at what is ahead.
Whether the visit starts with a house coffee or ends with a future bowl of ramen, Grant Street gains another welcome gathering place. |
