Market Arcade 8 in downtown Buffalo to reopen soon

The Scene One Entertainment Group is taking over the former AMC Theater and this will be its first theater in our region.

The Market Arcade 8 in downtown Buffalo is set to reopen this April, bringing a fresh wave of cinematic experiences to the city.

Scene One Entertainment Group, a Schenectady-based company, is taking the helm of the former AMC Theater, marking its first venture into the Western New York region.

“I could not be more excited than to take over this incredible theater right in Buffalo,” said Joe Masher, owner and CEO of Scene One Entertainment.

“Scene One has been committed to the moviegoing experience, particularly in downtowns.

The Market Arcade 8 fits perfectly in our vision for bringing filmgoers to the movies.

This would not be possible without the incredible leadership of Marty and the entire team at the Benchmark Group on working with us to make this opportunity a reality.”

The theater will showcase first-run Hollywood films alongside independent, foreign, and classic movies.

Additionally, plans are underway to feature a full bar, pending approval from the New York State Liquor Authority.

“I’ve been clear that revitalizing downtown starts with Main Street and the Theatre District, and this is exactly the kind of progress we want to see,” said Buffalo Mayor Sean Ryan.

“The reopening of the Market Arcade 8 will help bring foot traffic back to Main Street, support nearby businesses, and build the consistent energy we need for a strong and vibrant downtown.”

Originally opened in 1987 as General Cinema Theaters, the Market Arcade 8 has been a cornerstone of Buffalo's Theater District.

Its revival is expected to inject new life into the area, complementing recent developments like the upscale dining hall 'Expo' and planned residential apartments in the Market Arcade complex.

Residents and visitors alike can look forward to a revitalized entertainment hub that honors the theater's rich history while embracing modern cinematic offerings.
