Kenmore Porchfest backs next generation of WNY musicians |

Kenmore Porchfest is set to honor its inaugural music scholarship recipients during the halftime of the Porchfest Preview Party at the Kenmore Farmers Market on June 21.
While Buffalo's Porchfest circuit spans neighborhoods like Elmwood, South Buffalo, Parkside, Tonawanda, and Lancaster, this month, Kenmore is spotlighting its young musicians.
Since its 2021 debut, Kenmore Porchfest has evolved from a neighborhood gathering into a vibrant tradition, transforming porches into stages for bands, many featuring young talent.
Driven by volunteers, Kenmore Porchfest aims to infuse the community with joy and music. This year, the nonprofit introduced a scholarship program, awarding two $300 scholarships to high school and college students. Applications for next year's scholarships will open in May.
"Music scholarships can be difficult to access, so this program is our way of investing in the next generation of local musicians," says Rebecca Nagel, Kenmore Porchfest board secretary and marketing director. "For some, Kenmore Porchfest is their first time performing live, and watching them build confidence on stage is incredibly meaningful for both performers and the community."
There's a certain magic in watching young musicians prepare to perform—nervously, confidently, or somewhere in between—only to command the entire block moments later.
Don't miss this year's installment on Sunday, June 28. |
