Josh Allen to Wear Custom Cap Designed by Teen to Support Sickle Cell Awareness at Bills-Dolphins Game |
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen partners with Oishei Children's Hospital to highlight Sickle Cell Awareness Month |
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is set to make a meaningful statement during Thursday night's home game against the Miami Dolphins by wearing a custom-designed cap created by 15-year-old MaKenzie, a patient at Oishei Children's Hospital.
This initiative is part of Allen's ongoing collaboration with Oishei Children's Hospital, aiming to raise awareness and funds for pediatric care. MaKenzie, who has been living with sickle cell anemia since birth, designed the cap to reflect her journey and to bring attention to the challenges faced by individuals with this condition.
Diagnosed shortly after birth, MaKenzie has shown remarkable resilience. Inspired by her dedicated hematology team at Oishei, she aspires to become a nurse specializing in cardiac care. Beyond her medical challenges, MaKenzie enjoys playing flag football, embodying the spirit of perseverance.
The timing of this event is particularly significant, as September is recognized as Sickle Cell Awareness Month. By showcasing MaKenzie's design, Allen hopes to shed light on the importance of awareness and support for those affected by sickle cell anemia.
At the start of the game, Allen's cap will be auctioned off, with all proceeds benefiting the Patricia Allen Fund at Oishei Children's Hospital. This fund is dedicated to supporting critical care teams and providing essential resources for children and families in Western New York.
Each cap worn by Allen is signed and authenticated by the Buffalo Bills, ensuring its uniqueness and value. The online auction for MaKenzie's cap will remain open until 8 p.m. on Saturday, allowing fans ample time to participate and contribute to this noble cause.
This initiative will continue throughout the season, with each remaining Bills home game featuring new caps designed by other Oishei patients. Earlier this season, Allen wore a cap designed by Jaxson, a young patient featured in Week One against the Baltimore Ravens. That cap successfully raised $17,150 for the Patricia Allen Fund, demonstrating the community's generosity and support.
Fans interested in learning more or placing a bid can visit the official auction platform. This collaboration between Josh Allen, Oishei Children's Hospital, and the Buffalo Bills underscores the power of community and the impact of collective efforts in supporting children's health and well-being. |
