Girl Scout helps guinea pigs find forever homes in WNY
Kelsey Kowalski’s love for animals has sparked a unique idea.

At just 10 years old, Kelsey Kowalski of North Tonawanda is making a significant impact on the lives of guinea pigs in Western New York.

Her deep affection for animals has led her to initiate a supply drive supporting the Buffalo Guinea Pig Mafia Rescue, a local organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming guinea pigs.

As part of her efforts to earn the prestigious Bronze Award in Girl Scouts, Kelsey sought a project that would benefit her community.

Being a longtime guinea pig owner, she discovered the rescue group and felt it was the perfect fit to raise awareness about proper guinea pig care and support the rescue's mission.

Donations for the supply drive can be dropped off at Kitty Korner in North Tonawanda or at City Hall.

In addition to Kelsey's initiative, the Buffalo Guinea Pig Mafia Rescue is hosting the Pizza & Paws Fundraiser on May 30, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Epiphany United Church of Christ in Clarence Center.

This event aims to further support their mission of finding forever homes for guinea pigs in need.

For those interested in adopting a guinea pig, the rescue provides care and fosters for these animals until they can be safely placed in new homes.

They also offer volunteer opportunities for community members who wish to get involved.

To learn more about the rescue's work or to get involved, visit their website or contact them directly.

Through her dedication and compassion, Kelsey Kowalski is not only working towards her Girl Scout award but also making a lasting difference in the lives of many guinea pigs and the community.
