Extreme Cold Watch and Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Western New York

Residents Brace for Dangerous Wind Chills and Snowfall This Weekend

Western New York is preparing for a significant drop in temperatures as an arctic cold front is set to move into the region late Friday night.

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Watch from Friday night through Sunday morning, warning of wind chills that could plummet to 25 degrees below zero.

Such conditions pose a serious risk of frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 15 minutes.

In addition to the frigid temperatures, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 AM Friday to 7 PM Saturday.

Residents can expect snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, with higher amounts possible in areas south of Buffalo.

Gusty winds up to 40 mph will likely cause blowing and drifting snow, making travel hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service, the coldest wind chills are anticipated late Friday night through Saturday.

They advise that frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 15 minutes under these conditions.

Residents are urged to take precautions: limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and ensure all exposed skin is covered.

Travelers should exercise caution, as roads may become slippery and visibility reduced due to blowing snow.

Stay updated with local weather reports and heed any advisories or warnings issued by authorities.

Preparation and caution are key to staying safe during this extreme cold event.
