Buffalo’s Two-Hour Pizza…Is It Worth the Viral Hype?

The Secret Behind Buffalo's Newest Viral Spot

In a city where patience is often in short supply, the emergence of Buffalo Deep Dish has locals willingly waiting up to two hours for a slice of their renowned deep dish pizza. Nestled within the historic Silos at Elk Street, this pizzeria has become a culinary sensation, drawing crowds eager to experience its unique offerings.

Owner Matt Wyzykowski transitioned from a career in carpentry to pursue his passion for cooking. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he began sharing his homemade pizzas on social media, quickly amassing a following. This overwhelming demand led him to establish a residency at a local brewery before opening his own takeout spot on Elk Street. The response has been nothing short of remarkable.

Buffalo Deep Dish offers a variety of styles, including Detroit-style, Chicago-style, and tavern-style pizzas. Favorites like the Detroit-style 'Danny Zuko'—featuring house-made vodka sauce and Italian sausage—have garnered particular acclaim. The tavern-style cheese-and-pepperoni pizza delivers a crispy, thin crust that has also won over patrons. Given the high demand, it's advisable to arrive early, as pizzas often sell out before closing time.

Despite the long wait times, Wyzykowski remains committed to quality over speed. Operating with a single two-deck oven, he is focused on maintaining the high standards that have made his pizzas a local favorite. He advises customers to come prepared for a wait, emphasizing that the end product is worth the time invested.

For those planning a visit, Buffalo Deep Dish operates Thursday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., or until sold out. Patrons are encouraged to check the pizzeria's social media channels for the latest updates and to plan accordingly to avoid disappointment.
