Buffalo’s First Ever State Park Is Splash Pad Heaven for Your Kids

Already shaping up to be every parent’s favorite summer move.

Buffalo has unveiled its first state park, and it's quickly becoming a summer favorite for families.

Located at 1111 Fuhrmann Blvd., Buffalo Harbor State Park offers a refreshing escape right on the waterfront.

Parking is free, making it convenient for parents juggling kids, snacks, and beach gear.

The highlight for children is the expansive splash pad, featuring 162 water elements, including spray jets, misting arches, and a dumping bucket.

It's a place where kids can play for hours, bringing an energy reminiscent of major theme parks.

Adjacent to the splash pad is a 6,700-square-foot, nautical-themed playground designed to be accessible for all children.

The splash pad operates daily from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., weather permitting.

For those needing a break, the park provides swings, shaded seating areas, and clean restrooms open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., eliminating the need for emergency trips home.

There's also an indoor space available for community events, perfect for birthday parties and gatherings.

A notable feature is the 13-foot-tall steel sculpture named the Buffalo of Love, created by artist Ai Qiu Hopen.

Composed of 2,000 individual stainless-steel birds representing 15 native species, it symbolizes community strength and makes for a memorable photo opportunity.

This transformation of the Outer Harbor from industrial land to a family-friendly park is a welcome change.

Before visiting, note that dogs are allowed in day-use areas (up to two per family) but must be leashed and are not permitted in the playground or splash pad.

Inflatable structures and drones are prohibited.

If bringing kayaks or paddleboards, be cautious of sudden wind gusts common in the harbor.

For dining options, Perro & Poni at Wilkeson Pointe offers kid-friendly tacos, burritos, and rice bowls, along with a full bar for adults.

With its array of amenities, Buffalo Harbor State Park stands out as one of the best free activities for families in Buffalo this summer.
