Buffalo businesses readying for the return of March Madness

March Madness returns to the City of Buffalo

Buffalo is abuzz with anticipation as the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament returns to the KeyBank Center on March 19 and 21. Local businesses are gearing up to welcome an estimated 19,000 visitors, aiming to showcase the city's vibrant hospitality scene.

The Draft Room, situated near the arena, is preparing to serve as a central hub for fans. General Manager Jason Sunshine recalls the excitement from previous tournaments and is eager to recreate that atmosphere. Plans include a large outdoor screen broadcasting games and additional service stations to accommodate the influx of patrons.

Hofbrauhaus Buffalo, located on Scott Street, is also making adjustments. Co-owner Ed Arnold emphasizes the importance of efficiency during game days. The establishment will open early for breakfast and offer both regular and buffet menus to ensure quick service, allowing fans to dine and return to the games promptly.

Big Ditch Brewing Co., a bit farther from the arena, is strategizing to attract visitors during off-peak times. Co-owner Matt Kahn notes that while the brewery is about a mile away, they anticipate increased patronage, especially on the day between games. Specials like a combination of wings, beef on weck, and beer are planned to entice both locals and tourists.

Visit Buffalo Niagara has been proactive in preparing the local hospitality industry for the tournament. They project that the event will inject approximately $8 million into the local economy. Seminars have been held to guide businesses on managing peak crowd times and promoting the city beyond the games. The goal is to ensure visitors have a seamless and enjoyable experience, encouraging them to explore all that Buffalo has to offer.

As the tournament approaches, Buffalo's businesses are not only readying their establishments but also embracing the opportunity to highlight the city's charm and hospitality to a national audience.
