A Heartwarming Recognition for Buffalo Representative |
The American Red Cross of Western New York recently honored Senator April N.M. Baskin as the 2026 Legislator of the Year, recognizing her unwavering commitment to advancing life-saving initiatives within the Buffalo community.
Senator Baskin expressed her gratitude, stating, "I am incredibly honored to receive the 2026 New York State Legislator of the Year Award from the American Red Cross." She highlighted the organization's steadfast support since the Christmas blizzard of 2022 and their collaborative efforts on programs like Sound the Alarm and Desha's Law, emphasizing their shared goal of strengthening emergency preparedness in the community.
In addition to her work with the Red Cross, Senator Baskin has been actively involved in recognizing local heroes. In August 2025, she awarded the Liberty Medal, New York State's highest civilian honor, to Sarah Brown, a Buffalo resident who performed life-saving CPR on a motorist suffering from sudden cardiac arrest following a vehicle crash.
These initiatives underscore Senator Baskin's dedication to enhancing public safety and emergency preparedness in Buffalo. Her collaboration with the Red Cross and recognition of community heroes reflect a deep commitment to fostering a resilient and compassionate community. |
