'Amazed by how generous people are': Dozens of Western New Yorkers donate gift cards to TSA agents

In a remarkable display of community spirit, residents of Western New York have rallied to support TSA agents at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, who have been working without pay for over five weeks.

The airport initiated a call for assistance on Monday, and by 8 a.m. Tuesday, a steady stream of individuals began arriving to donate various gift cards to aid the affected workers.

According to airport officials, the drive amassed approximately $16,000 in gift card donations during Tuesday's collection.

One donor expressed, "There's people in Western New York that care more than the darn government."

Another contributor mentioned, "Some Aldi gift cards for our TSA agents."

A community member added, "Tops and an Amazon card."

"Figured they could use some grocery cards," noted another donor.

Volunteers, typically accompanied by their therapy dogs to comfort travelers, took on the role of collecting the donations.

One volunteer shared, "We've had McDonald's, we've had Aldi's, we've had Tops."

Another remarked, "I feel uplifted by all this generosity. I'm just amazed by how generous people are."

A fellow volunteer observed, "This is phenomenal. The people just keep coming."

While the Buffalo Niagara International Airport has not experienced the extensive delays seen at other airports, the TSA agents continue to perform their duties without compensation as the partial government shutdown persists.
