For many Western New York families, a Thanksgiving meal now comes with a difficult question: How will they afford it?

That pressure is why BJ’s Wholesale Club and Buffalo Bills defensive tackle DeWayne Carter are joining FeedMore WNY to confront holiday hunger.

The retailer is contributing $50,000 to the regional organization’s Thanksgiving food distribution, putting resources behind a need that extends well beyond one dinner.

An additional $5,000 will support Carter Cares LLC, the player’s community-service organization.

Together, the gifts offer practical help as food insecurity weighs on households across Buffalo and surrounding communities.

FeedMore WNY says demand for nutritional assistance through its programs has climbed about 51% over the past three years.

That figure points to a persistent strain, not simply a seasonal rush for holiday groceries.

Thanksgiving food distribution helps families facing tight budgets, but local needs do not disappear when the leftovers are gone.

The partnership also gives Carter a way to carry his off-field commitment into the community where he plays.

He started Carter Cares LLC in 2024 with a focus on service, compassion and young people.

Community goodwill matters, but it cannot meet every rising request for food assistance on its own.

FeedMore WNY relies on partnerships with businesses and community members to sustain its work as more residents seek help.

BJ’s contribution will help the organization get food to households during a season that can magnify financial stress.

For families facing food insecurity, reliable access to meals matters beyond the reassurance of a single holiday delivery.

For parents deciding which bills can wait, timely food assistance can create breathing room when it matters most.

Across Western New York, this collaboration offers a reminder that responding to holiday hunger takes more than one generous gesture.
