Cheektowaga Winners Show Us How the Best Sausages Get Made |
The 12th annual Buffalo's Best Kielbasa Contest took place on March 28, 2026, at Potts Banquet Hall in Cheektowaga, drawing 27 entries from dedicated homemade sausage makers across Western New York.
Attendees enjoyed live music from Captain Tom & The Hooligans and savored dishes from Potts Deli & Grille, creating a festive atmosphere that celebrated the region's rich Polish heritage.
The competition featured five categories, with the following winners:
Fresh Traditional: Keith Bednarz
Smoked Traditional: Michael Martinez
Fresh Holiday (with marjoram): Andrew House
Smoked Holiday (with marjoram): Steve Slazak
Non-Traditional: Keith Bednarz
Organizer Tod Kniazuk expressed gratitude to the participants and sponsors, emphasizing the event's role in preserving family traditions and enhancing the Polish Easter season.
The contest was supported by Fillmore District Common Council Member Mitch Nowakowski, The Sausage Maker, Buffalo Distilling Co., Potts Banquet Hall, and The Big Easy in Buffalo.
A panel of esteemed judges, including local chefs, media personalities, and community leaders, evaluated the entries, ensuring a fair and comprehensive assessment of each homemade sausage.
This year's contest not only highlighted the culinary talents of local sausage makers but also reinforced the community's commitment to celebrating and preserving its cultural heritage.
