The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo has announced that 78 organizations across Western New York have been awarded more than $1.26 million in grants for 2026.
These funds, established to honor the legacy of Ralph C. Wilson Jr., aim to support areas he was passionate about during his lifetime.
In 2015, the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation created endowment funds at the Community Foundation to provide annual support in four key areas: caregivers, community assets, design and access, and youth sports.
These endowment funds are designed to grow over time, ensuring perpetual funding for charitable causes aligned with Wilson's vision.
The 2026 grant recipients span a diverse range of organizations dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Western New York.
For instance, the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Fund for Caregivers has provided grants to organizations such as Compeer of Greater Buffalo and Gerard Place, both receiving $20,000 to support their initiatives for caregivers.
In the realm of community assets, the Buffalo Arts Studio was awarded $15,000, while the Graycliff Conservancy Inc. received $16,000 to continue their cultural and historic preservation efforts.
The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Fund for Design and Access granted $50,000 to the Alfred Almond Community Sports Association Inc. to enhance community access to spaces promoting healthy living.
In youth sports, organizations like 716 Squash and the Buffalo Maendeleo Soccer Club Inc. received grants to provide opportunities for children to engage in physical activities.
Since the inception of these legacy funds, nearly $14 million has been awarded to support organizations across the eight counties of Western New York.
These annual grants reflect a commitment to sustaining and enhancing the region's community assets and services.
