Buffalo City Mission Delivers 4,000 Christmas Meals to Families in Need |
Annual Hambone Express Brings Holiday Cheer to Over 900 Homes Across Western New York |
On Christmas Day, the Buffalo City Mission orchestrated a remarkable community effort, delivering 4,000 hot meals to families in need across Western New York.
This initiative, known as the Hambone Express, saw more than 300 dedicated volunteers come together to ensure that no neighbor went without a festive meal during the holiday season.
In partnership with Wegmans, the Mission prepared and distributed ham dinners to over 900 homes throughout the region.
The meals were meticulously packed and delivered by 145 volunteer teams, embodying the spirit of giving that defines the season.
The preparation for this massive undertaking began earlier in the week, with a large-scale prep night at the City Mission's facilities.
Volunteers gathered to cook, package, and organize the meals, ensuring that each one was ready for delivery on Christmas morning.
For many volunteers, participating in the Hambone Express has become a cherished annual tradition.
âThis is a long-standing tradition that the Buffalo City Mission has had to address food insecurity in Western New York during the holidays,â said Amanda Wolanske, the Missionâs donor engagement officer.
âThis way, we can ensure that families and individuals all have meals they can enjoy on Christmas Day.â
The impact of the Hambone Express extends beyond the meals themselves.
It fosters a sense of community and support, reminding recipients that they are not alone during the holidays.
Volunteers not only deliver food but also share smiles, conversations, and holiday cheer, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve.
The Buffalo City Mission's commitment to combating hunger and homelessness is evident through initiatives like the Hambone Express.
By mobilizing volunteers and partnering with local businesses, they continue to provide essential services and support to the community, especially during times of heightened need.
As the holiday season comes to a close, the Mission encourages community members to stay involved.
Opportunities to volunteer, donate, or participate in future events are available year-round, ensuring that the spirit of giving continues beyond the holidays.
