Buffalo Bills Intensify Search for New Head Coach Amidst Winter Storm

Team conducts multiple interviews as severe weather impacts Western New York

The Buffalo Bills are actively pursuing a new head coach following the recent departure of Sean McDermott, who led the team for nine seasons.

Despite the challenging weather conditions in Western New York, the organization has pressed forward with interviews, demonstrating their commitment to finding the right leader.

On January 25, the Bills interviewed Grant Udinski, the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In his first season as OC, Udinski guided an offense that tied for sixth in points per game (27.7) and ranked 11th in yards per game (338.6).

His leadership was instrumental in the Jaguars' offensive surge during the latter half of the season, averaging 32.8 points from Week 9 to 18.

Prior to his tenure in Jacksonville, Udinski served as an offensive assistant with the Minnesota Vikings and began his NFL coaching career with the Carolina Panthers.

On January 24, the Bills conducted interviews with two candidates: Anthony Lynn and Anthony Weaver.

Lynn, currently the run game coordinator and running backs coach for the Washington Commanders, has previous head coaching experience with the Los Angeles Chargers and a history with the Bills as assistant head coach and running backs coach from 2015-16.

Weaver, serving as the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, has a coaching background that includes roles with the Baltimore Ravens and a stint as the Bills' defensive line coach in 2013.

On January 23, the team interviewed former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers.

After retiring from a distinguished playing career, Rivers transitioned to coaching at the high school level, achieving a 43-15 record and leading his team to consecutive state semifinal appearances.

His recent return to the NFL with the Colts showcased his enduring leadership qualities.

Earlier in the process, on January 22, the Bills interviewed Lou Anarumo, the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts.

Anarumo brings 36 years of coaching experience, including a successful tenure with the Cincinnati Bengals, where his defense ranked top 10 in several categories.

Additionally, former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll was interviewed.

Daboll, a Western New York native, previously served as the Bills' offensive coordinator from 2018-21, contributing to the team's offensive success during that period.

The search commenced on January 21 with an interview of the Bills' own offensive coordinator, Joe Brady.

Since taking over as full-time OC in 2024, Brady has led an offense that averaged 30.6 points per game in 2024 and 28.3 points in 2025, ranking among the top in the league.

As the Bills continue their search, the organization remains focused on selecting a head coach who can build upon the team's recent successes and guide them to future achievements.

Despite the ongoing winter storm warning in the region, the team's commitment to this process underscores their dedication to the franchise's future.

Fans are encouraged to stay updated through official team channels for the latest developments in the coaching search.
