Annual 'Santa's Helpers Band' Tour Brings Joy to Western New York Communities |
For over three decades, the Akron High School Tiger Marching Band has transformed into the festive "Santa's Helpers Band," delighting Western New York residents with their annual holiday tour.
On December 15, 2023, the band, adorned in Santa hats and elf shoes, embarked on their musical journey, bringing seasonal joy to various community locations.
The day's performances commenced at the NFTA Bus Station on Ellicott Street in Buffalo, followed by visits to FeedMore WNY in Amherst, the Buffalo Niagara International Airport in Cheektowaga, and senior living communities such as Amberleigh and Solstice in Williamsville.
The band also entertained audiences at Dave Smith Ford and the Eastern Hills Mall, before concluding their tour at Adesa and returning to Akron.
Senior percussionist Autumn Hall shared her enthusiasm, stating, "Seeing people actually enjoying us playing and seeing them smile when we come by, it makes you feel really good inside."
Fellow senior Dawson Stone echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the camaraderie among band members: "It's a small school, so everybody is friends. It's just a great time to talk to each other and be with each other."
Band Director Brendon Bardo highlighted the significance of the event, noting, "It's a time for students to be together outside of school. This is freshmen all the way to seniors. It's their first time interacting."
The tradition not only showcases the musical talents of Akron's students but also fosters a sense of community and holiday spirit throughout the region.
As the band continues to spread cheer year after year, their performances remain a cherished highlight of the holiday season in Western New York. |
