The News, Eats & Events Shaping Western New York

Western New Yorkers are invited to enjoy a memorable evening for a great cause at the upcoming Sips, Suds & Sweets fundraiser on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the Cloverbank Country Club in Hamburg.

This lively annual event features a mix of drink and food tastings, live music, raffles, and an auction, offering a perfect Thursday night out.

Tickets are $75 and include three hours of samples, entry to raffles and auctions, plus a special gift bag.

Those who can’t attend can still join the fun by participating online.

Proceeds benefit Senior Wishes, a local nonprofit granting wishes to low-income seniors—ranging from outings to dream experiences.

The group also brings cheer to veterans and seniors during holidays through special gift programs.

Locals are encouraged to nominate a senior for a wish, volunteer, or simply join for a heartwarming night out.

Buffalo officials have launched a major $29.3 million project to overhaul aging sewer infrastructure on the city’s West Side.

The Breckenridge Combined Sewer Overflow Project will modernize sewers along West Avenue, from Lafayette Avenue to Breckenridge Street, upgrading connections to homes and adding a new water main.

Crews will replace any lead service lines found, ensuring safer drinking water for residents.

Breckenridge Street’s combined sewer will also be relined from West Avenue to Herkimer Street, addressing both structural issues and environmental concerns.

Rosaleen B. Nogle of the Buffalo Sewer Authority highlighted the importance of replacing century-old pipes to reduce sewer overflows into the Black Rock Canal, a key waterway used by families and boaters.

State Assemblymember Jon Rivera called the work vital for both today’s residents and future generations.

Construction begins this spring and is expected to wrap up in two to three years, with West Avenue fully repaved at completion.

Shake Shack will open its second full-service restaurant in Western New York next week, welcoming fans with gourmet burgers and shakes at 5205 Transit Road in Clarence.

The new spot takes over the former Spot Coffee location and opens to the public on Wednesday, April 15th, serving guests daily from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Early visitors can snag custom Shake Shack tote bags during the grand opening celebration.

Showing a commitment to community, Shake Shack will donate $1 from every sandwich sold on opening day to FeedMore WNY, helping provide meals and training for local families in need.

The menu highlights favorites like the ShackBurger, crispy chicken sandwiches, crinkle-cut fries, and indulgent milkshakes in flavors such as Oreo Cookie Funnel Cake.

This expansion follows close on the heels of the Amherst opening last year, continuing to grow Shake Shack’s regional footprint.

Clarence locals and visitors can soon savor high-quality fast-casual eats right in town.
